Power converter ??
 

I Have been many times to Scotland but never have took a laptop...what is the best power converter ?? My son wants to take X-Box too....I have friends that took laptop's and they have been "Fried"...any ideas ??

Take a look at the power cord. There's a small black transformer somewhere on this cord and it should take whether it works with 110 volts only or if it works with 220 volts too. If so, you're only worrying about the plug to make this work. Find a radio shack which sells the plug converters.

Taking an X-Box on an overseas vacation? Wow.

I'd suggest nixing the XBox, too. Besides the fact that it's heavy, expensive and could get damaged in transit, the most important idea is to get the kid away from the TV. I have a teen son and know the addiction to XBox!
You're smart to make sure you know what you're doing with your laptop. A friend used a power convertor on hers, when it was not necessary, and she ruined her computer. I guess it had it's own converter built into it's cord, and using the additional one was NOT a good idea.

The video technology used in the U.S. (NTSC) is not compatible with that used in the U.K. (PAL). Leave the X-Box home.

About voltage converters: there are two kinds, transformer and switching.

Electronics that use power supplies (AC adapters) should only be plugged into transformer converters.

Appliances that get hot (hair care) are the only thing that should be used with switching converters. You <i>could</i> use a transformer with the appropriate power rating, but a new appliance would be cheaper (and <u>much</u> lighter).

I bet you son has a modded X-Box 1, they work :-).

Here's an idea: If the kid wants to spend his time on the X-Box, save a pile of money and leave him with Grammie Young or Aunt Edna.

Robespierre, I have an electric brush...and I have a converter....how will I know if it is a switching type? I really love my brush and it does not come with &quot;dual voltage&quot;. I don't want to fry it.

I think that would be safe with either kind, because the toothbrush uses a transformer. Email the manufacturer.

What burns up is a switching AC adapter plugged into a switching converter.

I think I understand, but before I fry my PDA, is the transformer that comes inside the charger the only transformer you need if the plug says 100-220? And then you plug that charger into a plug adapter, and that's it?
