Povence Pottery
 

I am starting a business to sell those bright colored pottery of Provence.
I saw many vendors at marche but does anyone know where they are manufactured?
I would live to visit the manufacturer.

I am staying Carpentras or Avignon area.

There are many potters in Uzes. We loved going there.

Much of the stuff you see in markets is manufactured and/or sold in the Catalonia town of le Bisbal in Spain. There is a lot of local pottery in the town of Dieulefit in northern Provence. Others on this forum claim that a lot of it is from China.

If you are serious about this, you should speak and read and write enough French to be googling the appropriate sites in French and contacting manufacturers by email or phone in French. Also, given the exchange rate and shipping costs and the economy in general, plus the ready availability of this type of stuff in discount stores such as Marshalls and whatnot, I must say this sounds like a poor idea. I was in the import business for a few years (as a side business) back when everything in Europe was pretty much a bargain, and even then it was a struggle to sell what were essentially luxury items. Plus, there's nothing particularly special about pottery from Provence, and most people who want some of it just go there and buy it themselves. I am assuming you are American (forgive me if I'm mistaken); if you're European I think it's an even worse idea.

Almost forgot - St Quentin la Poterie has lots of pottery shops (as the name implies). We didn't like most of the stuff - except poterie by Partick Galtie www.poteriegaltie.com. We purchased 6 extra large plates & 6 small ones.

I would also say that the pottery I bought in Uzes was not the "colorful" Provencal. It was just nice pottery, like I find in the NC pottery areas.
