Hi Laura,
My husband and I were in Tuscany (San Germangiano) and in the center of town, saw a potter with the most amazing display of pieces. As a matter of fact, he was spinning a new piece whilst I walked into the store. I don't remember the name - perhaps another fodorite out there will know.

You want to go to a town called NOVE.
It is located about 20 minutes from Vicenza. There are 120 pottery factories there crafting ceramics for all the major stores (williams sonoma, bloomingdales, tiffanys)in the US.

Also Deruta in Umbria. Many artists (big & small) have shops on the main street in the new town.

I'm guessing that Vietri, on the Amalfi coast, has the same thing; you could check it out online.

Thanks for the info. It is my fourth time in Italy (2 were 17 years ago) and each time I regret not visiting any potters or pottery factories. With your help I will definitely incorporate them into this trip.
Thanks again!
