My husband and I will be arriving in Tuscany late afternoon September 9th. On our last visit to the area in 2012 we covered Florence, Pisa, Siena,, Volterra, Montepulciano and Monteriggioni. We are staying at Agriturismo Poggiacolle outside of San Gimignano. I am looking for suggestions for some day trips to some smaller more quaint areas this time. I will be setting one day aside for a trip to Lucca but other than that we have no firm plans. We will have 4 full days and a half day available not including the day trip to Lucca. We stayed in this same area before so we also spent quite a bit of time in San Gimignano. After we leave there we will be checking out the Lake Como area for four days. Any suggestions for that area would be greatly appreciated too. Thanks in advance.

We spent three days on Lake Como at the end of September last year. It is covered in the first part of our 2-part trip report (the second part includes Lakes Iseo and Garda):
Trip Report: Part 1 Northern Italian Lakes & Cities (12 days October)
It seems that you really covered the best of Tuscany that is easily reachable from San Gimignano. We also have enjoyed Montalcino, Masse Marittima, Pienza, and Cortona (under the Tuscan Sun)
