Underhill, you were thinking of "Bon Voyage" with Virginie Ledoyen, Grégori Dérangère, Isabelle Adjani and Gérard Dépardieu, among others.

kerouac Aug 14th, 2006 08:46 AM

But, uh, Thierry Lhermitte wasn't in it.

Great list! I guess I'm heading to the video store! I'll add my votes for Enchanted April, A Room With a View and Out of Africa as well.

Does anyone remember "A Little Romance" from the early 80's? With Diane Lane and Lawrence Olivier? Two teenage lovers have to get from Paris to Venice to kiss under the bridge of sighs at sunset in order to make sure their love is eternal?

Also "The Comfort of Strangers" with Rupert Everett, Helen Mirren and Christopher Walken. Beautiful and creepy and oh so Venice! If you've never seen it, you must do so NOW!!

cigalechanta Aug 14th, 2006 09:41 AM

Likewise for "Don't look now" with Donald Suderland and Julie Christie.
Another film making Venice creepy!

Passport to Paris with the Olsen Twins. Seriously, give it a shot. Great scenes of Paris.

A lot of people seem to just be listing foreign movies instead of travel movies.

He certainly wasn't, although I wish he had been--along with Jean Reno.

Underhill Aug 14th, 2006 01:12 PM

Many thanks, Kerouac--it was a film I'd recorded off the air and so had no record of it once we watched it.

Thanks to Travelbug for reviving this thread, I must have missed it the first time. Great suggestions for our trip in March to Barcelona and Morocco. We just watched "Little Manhattan" with great scenes of NYC and it reminded me of "A Little Romance" but I didn't remember that it took place in Paris and Venice - now I must rent it!

Romancing the Stone. My trip to Machu Picchu wasn't that far off from the movie. Very adventerous, romantic and even ended up a little dangerous.

Rosiegirl Sep 7th, 2006 06:39 AM

Does anyone remember the movie "The Red Balloon?" About the little boy in Montmartre and the balloon that follows him.
