Post cruise hotel in Athens
I am looking for a post cruise hotel in Athens for one night this summer. Price range no greater than 210 Euro. preferably with a pool? Any suggestions on a nice spot... looking at the Intercontinental and Hilton, but they seem out of the way of the downtown area... Electra Palace has mixed reviews on Tripadvisor... with the service and rooms.

I have stayed at a very good hotel located in the town centre, at Syntagma Square and its name is Royal Olympic Hotel. It is very close to the metro station but I cannot recall what the name of the closest station is. I think that it is a very nice area and you are in the heart of Athens with various means of transport around, so you can move easily. The hotel has also a swimming pool and I was satisfied by the services I was offered there. If you haven’t decided yet on where to stay, you can have a look at it. Here is a website I have found the hotel and some photos of it: http://www.athens-greece.us/athens-h...al-Olympic.htm There is also a map on this site that can help you with the directions. If you need to know something in further, you can ask me for it. I will be pleased to help you.

It is rated a 5 star, but the reviews on Tripadvisor are just ok... some are not pleased with the rooms, bathrooms, and say that the walls are paper thin... you can hear everything.

If you require a pool at that budget, in high season, your choices that are central (i.e., close to Syntagma or to Acropolis) are very limited. Suggest dropping pool requirement or raising budget range.

If I raise my budget, what are your suggestions for a nice property.

Grande Bretagne.

3 star ATTALOS HOTEL-right in the middle of everything. You can take the metro to and from the airport and everywhere else in the city. No pool but fabulous location and really inexpensive prices for the area.

For our Sept trip to Greece, we are booked at the Electra Palace. Like you, I had read some mixed reviews on Trip Advisor. We decided to pay extra to upgrade to Superior rooms. They are larger than the standard rooms, have direct views of the Acropolis and most of them have balconies. I think we are paying about $300USD, which is close to your stated budget. And they have gym, pool, everything. If you are using a Greek travel agent, you can get a good deal - the rack rate on our rooms was around $360 or maybe more (can't recall), but our travel agent got us the discounted rate. And according to the guidebooks, Plaka seems to be the center of the action, loads of cafes, shops, etc.

Sounds like a good possibility. The Fresh Hotel has a pool, but I have read that the area at night is not great.

Based on reviews on Tripadvisor, booked a room with a balcony (which they cannot guarantee... they say it is based on how early you book the room)... They have a pool and includes breakfast... any idea on how many rooms have balconies with the acropolis views?
|
My travel agent told me that all superior rooms have Acropolis views as they are located on the top 2 floors. And most have balconies. Whether you get one or not depends I would imagine on how full they are. We are going in early Sept, which while busy, is not as crazy as July and Aug, so she is pretty confident we will get the balcony rooms.

Hi,
I have stayed at the St. George Lycabettus which has a roof top pool. Their rates are 150-210 euros. It is a little out of the way, but located in a very nice green area and an easy walk to Kolonaki Sq and not so far to Syntagma. Goolge it. I really enjoyed the hotel and the pool was great. The pool area has a great view of the Acropolis. Have a great vaca, Yipper |
tripadvisor comments on the st. george were not very favorable.

Does anyone know the King George Palace Hotel, and if they can compare it to the Electra Palace? Not sure if we need a pool after being on a 7 night greek island cruise... but I thought since it will be very hot in August, a pool would be nice. I dont think the king george has an outdoor one.. cant tell from website.
