A few years ago my boyfriend/now husband and I went to Paris for new years. We had a ball! We are thinking about heading back over to western europe this year but want to try someplace new as I want to save Paris for spring.

Who has suggestions? Where have you gone for new years and why did you like it?

It depends on what you're looking for Wendy. If you want a city with fireworks and street happening etc., it seems like Edinburgh is the place based on other posts here. I spent last NYE in Venice & loved it. But no fireworks etc. It was just a great excuse to go to Venice for the first time. Crowds were much less than in other seasons & we found the perfect venue for NYE with live music, spectacular food, dancing. But that may not be what you're looking for.

We would want someplace that has some sort of celebration. Doesn't have to be big fireworks but a gathering of sorts.

Good suggestions, will do a bit of reading on Edinburgh.
