Hello all,

How many nights should I stay in Positano to really enjoy it? Is 2 nights sufficient? 3? I most likely can't afford more than 2 or 3. Also, what do people do at night there?

Same question regarding Capri. I really can only most likely afford one night in Capri. Is that suffice? And, is a day trip only worth it? The words on this forum seem to scream that it's packed with tourists during the day (but perhaps that doesn't diminish it's beauty?).

Any feedback is appreciated! Thanks!

PS. I would be in Positano/Capri in mid-August.

I would spend at least two nights in Positano and at least one in Capri. If you can afford it, do three nights in Positano and two on Capri. Capri really does have its own magic after the daytrippers leave. As for what to do at night, in Positano, not much. Have a leisurely dinner starting at 8:30 or nine. Walk around the town with other people, get gelato. There is (or at least used to be) a disco on the far end of the beach going toward Amalfi. It was called "on the rocks" or something like that. In Capri, same thing. Late, leisurely dinner, followed by walking around or sitting in the Piazzetta and people watching.

Positano is one of my favorite places in the world. It's beautiful but there isn't a lot to do. That's why I like it as I usually put it in the middle of my trips and just use those days to relax and enjoy the scenery. Capri is of course gorgeous also. There is more to do there (visit Anacapri, Monte Solaro, Blue Grotto, Villa Jovis etc.) but also you can relax on the beaches of Marina Piccola and the Faraglioni. Great destinations and like I said before, if I could do it, I'd spend at least three nights in Positano and two, preferably three on Capri.

I second the advice about staying the night if you can on Capri. If you cannot, you can see a bit of what makes it special by taking any one of the walks on the little map you can get in Capri. A hundred yards out of town (particularly uphill yards) the crowds thin out.

I think it's important to remember that these places are resorts. Part of the pleasure is falling into the swing of things. You head to the beach in the morning, lunch at Chez Black or its competitors, visit a local site of interest, return to your hotel and hang out at the pool, choose a spot for dinner, take a walk in the evening -- then get up the next morning and do it again.

If you get bored, you make your daytrip to Capri or Amalfi, or Pompeii or Paestum, and then get back in the routine. I consider time on the Amalfi Coast as a more sophisticated version of an old fashioned beach vacation.

3 nights in Positano, 2 on capri.
I fyou cant to that, 2 in Positano, 1 on capri.
We loved Capri, and are so, so glad we stayed there overnight.

In Positano in August you can go to Music on the Rocks and other venues that are open in the summer.

Have fun and tell us about the Club if you go. I have been and it is quite an experience to say the least.

We have stayed on Capri for a week already used it as a base to visit Sorrento etc. The day crowds leave at about 4/5 pm then it becomes bliss!! I love the place. We travelled to Rome from Capri for a day visit, never again!!!

I just returned from CAPRI & POSITANO.
I agree with Grinisa.

Both places are so Beautiful.
We loved Capri, and met fabulous people while we were there.
Staying at least 3 or 4 nights in Capri would be My choice. The food was "to die for."
Strolling, sitting and hanging out in the Piazetta is the big "activity" at night there.
Looking Chic and people watching is part of the fun.
I wish I had gone to Capri many years ago, when more of the smaller local shops were in existance. I am sure it was a different experience.
Capri has always been a very fashionable resort in a beautiful setting.

As a suggestion, take advantage of the boats, and hydrofoils along the coast and to other Amalfi coast detination, as the boat rides on the Mediterranean are part of the fun, and the scenery is breathtaking to view, as you are "cruising on the boat."

Positano is lovely to see. There are not too many things to do there at night except having a nice dinner, drinks, and relaxing.

Mix up the stay with a ride to Amalfi and then take the bus to Ravello for a beautiful day. It was so easy to do.
Amalfi is very small and can easily be combined in the same day as visiting Ravello.
