Positano/Tuscany travel question

In May I will need to get from Positano to Perugia. Last time I was in Positano, I did a similar route & I took a car service to Sorrento & picked up a rental car & drove to Montalcino which made for an extremely long day of car travel but worked out ok. I plan to arrive in Positano via ferry from Salerno.....would it make sense to take the ferry back to Salerno when I am departing Positano & the get a car in Salerno rather than Sorrento?

That's what I would do if it didn't add too much time. Depending on which car rental company you use, if it is too far to walk from the ferry dock you can always catch a quick cab ride to the car rental office. It seems that Salerno has much better freeway access than Sorrento, but I would still compare the route on viamichelin to see the time difference, since Salerno is south of where you are vs where you want to end up.

I just did a quick search on Viamichelin and it shows 5 hours driving from Sorrento to Perugia and 4.23 hours driving from Salerno to Perugia. Of course, Viamichelin is notoriously optimistic in the driving times and there could be traffic, etc., etc., etc. But that at least gives you an idea that you could actually save time going south by ferry to Salerno and getting the rental car there. And it seems to me that the ferry time to Salerno would be about the same amount of time to ride from Pos to Sorrento.

I would think ferry time to Sorrento would be faster than ferry time to Salerno since that ferry will have to stop in Amalfi to pick up passengers.

I'd take the train from Salerno to Perugia (which is in Umbria not Tuscany). Will you need the car at your destination? Perugia itself is not a good city from which to make daytrips by car; it's too far in and out and the parking's not convenient to the historic center.

True KY, but the stop in Amalfi is surprisingly short. The ferry timetable shows 55 minutes ferry to Sorrento and 70 minutes ferry to Salerno - so 15 minutes longer to Salerno. But the OP had originally posted about getting a driver from Pos to Sorrento.
