Positano to Rome - What is the best way?
We are honeymooning in Italy April 25- May 6. Our itinerary is Capri (3 nights)- Positano (3nights)- Rome(5nights). We fly into Rome early on the 25th and polan to catch the first train to naples and then a ferry to Capri.
We plan to Ferry from Capri to Positano and then by train from Positano to Rome. Is this the best way or would you recommend renting a car for the trip between positano and Rome? It doesn't seem liek it is convenient to get to a train station from Positano. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! |
The nearest train stations are Sorrento or Salerno. If you can take the ferry from Positano to Salerno and then catch an ES train to Rome Termini. Sorrento has a commuter train that you would have to take to Naples and then catch an ES to Rome.

Thank you very much. Have you ever been to Positano in April? Can you suggest any restaurants or must see sights? I really appreciate your feedback!

Hello...vacationing in Positano soon...can you advise...is there a bus from Avellino town to Positano. After our stay in Positano, should we take the ferry to Salerno and then train back to Rome?
Thank you. |
>...is there a bus from Avellino town to Positano?<
Check http://www.sita-on-line.it/ under Campania >..should we take the ferry to Salerno and then train back to Rome?< It's a very pleasant trip on the ferry. The dock in Salerno is close to the train station. You can also take the SITA bus, change in Amalfi. It's easy to take luggage on the bus than on the Circumvesuviana. >..would you recommend renting a car for the trip between positano and Rome?< Nope. SITA bus to Sorrento, Circumvesuviana to Naples SITA bus to Salerno via Amalfi. Ferry to Sorrento Ferry to Salerno Ferry to Naples Private driver from Positano to Naples -about 100E. ((I)) |
jpallen - It appears you can take the bus from either Naples or Salerno to Avellino. http://www.sita-on-line.it/campaniatpl.html Scroll down to quadro 1 and 2 but these are old schedules. Stop in one of the travel agencies in Sorrento and they will tell you the best way because there are also some train lines that leave from Pompeii that might be an option.
cjamigo - I have only been to Capri and Sorrento in early April but there were many restaurants open so it shouldn't be a problem. |
This question keeps getting asked, over and over and over!!!!: http://www.fodors.com/forums/pgMessa...A+the+fast+way |
Thank you for the advice. Thanks GAC for leading me to the other information. I am new to fodors and am just figuring out the many ways to find an answer to a question. My valuable trip information folder keeps getting fatter as I find more info on fodors.
