Positano to Naples

We'll be in Positano in June, 2011. What is the best way to get to the Naples train station? Ferry to Capri and then Capri to Naples or Ferry to Sorrento and train from Sorrento to Naples or driver to Sorrento and then train to Naples?

Hi

Bus from Positano to the Sorrento train station (this where the bus termini is). Then train to Naples.

Hire a driver for about 100e door to door.
Holler if you need names.

How much time do you have to do this trip? The road from Positano to Sorrento will be packed and traveling at about 15 mph - so I would be afraid of a bus. With a car at lest you're not making constant stops.

Trekking out to Capri and back would be a huge waste of time.

We took the ferry from Positano and then the bus to the train station.

I meant to say we took the ferry from Positano to Naples and then the bus to the train station.

Going the other way to Salerno is another way to catch a train.

Micheline will probably have meant the Metro del Mare - a seasonal hydrofoil service that's put on with the express purpose of reducing road traffic, with heavily subsidised fares (€14 to Naples/Postano, as against the standard €10 just Naples/Sorrento, or €16 Naples/Capri).

The website is all in Italian at present....

Check (much) nearer the time, as things will probably be slightly different next year, but I've posted a copy of their June 2010 schedules here...

Thank you all. We plan to use the ferry when we arrive in Positano. I understand that there are porters available at the Positano ferry terminal to help get the luggage up the hills to the lodging. What are the going rates for the porters to carry the luggage?

ekscrunchy Dec 25th, 2010 06:12 AM

I've never hired a porter there, but it is my understanding that the rate is about 6 euro or so per bag.

Why not ask your hotel?

It is not a terminal, by the way, just a dock..

What is your final destination? It doesn't appear to be Naples since you are asking about getting to the Naples train station. If it is Rome, in summer there is a bus (Marozzi) that picks up in Positano (summer only - otherwise you would catch in Sorrento) and goes to Rome's Tiburtina station. It departs Positano at 16:10 with brief stops (just long enough to pick up a few passengers) in Sorrento, Pompeii and a couple of other small towns(it does not go into Naples) and the cost is 20.5€. No changes involved until Rome. Tiburtina is a major bus/train hub and is also on the metro.

Hi. Have you visited Positano yet? We will also be traveling from Positano to Naples airport in August. Our flight is at 1:50pm from Naples and will need to arrive 2 hours before departure. Thus, was wondering what your experience was returning to Naples, the time you allowed and the transportation option you selected.

Thank you for your help and hope you had a great time.

Hey S,

Instead of resurrecting a 6 month old thread, I suggest that you start your own.

I think that you will get more responses.
