Positano sight seeing - Capril versus Ravello
We are going to be in Positano for two nights and we're trying to figure out what would make for nice sightseeing given our limited time in the area. We have heard great things about both Ravello and Capri. It seems like exploring Positano one morning and Ravello in the afternoon may be a nice leisurely option. I like the idea of seeing Capri but given you're on a ferry schedule (we would have a driver take us to Ravello) it seems like a lot of your day would be spent queuing up and on the ferry. Appreciate any thoughts.

The ferry is not the problem, it is a relatively easy and not a long ride. We absolutely love Capri but do not recommend it as a day trip. Capri town is a madhouse at midday with all of those on day trips and cruises. We spent 3 days on Capri and left the town during the middle of the day to take advantage of Capri's many charms. Capri town is lovely in the early morning and late afternoon and eveneing. I recommend spending a day in Positano and a day in Ravello or other Amalfi Coast location.

I agree with one day in Positano and one day exploring Ravello and Amalfi. We loved taking a 2-hour tour of Positano with Christine of www.discoverpositano.com. We sampled some wonderful local products, learned the history of the town and region, and even received a discount at some of the stores!

Much appreciated and that's what I thought. We have had a similar experience when we stayed in San Gimignano for a few nights. We cleared out during the day when the town was packed but the mornings and evenings there were great without the daytrippers.

I would also highly recommend lunch at Lido Azzuro in Amalfi or Cumpa Cosima in Ravello.

Thank you ekc. Any thoughts on whether Naples is worth a lunch stop on way to Positano? We will be driving from Cortona and dropping the car in Sorrento in order to catch the hydrofoil or ferry to Positano. I'm leaning towards stopping in Tivoli for lunch at Sibilla as we've enjoyed their food previously and it's a nice stopping point but I hate to miss true Neapolitan pizza.
