Positano or Ravello? Which to stay in.
My wife and I will be on the AC for 3 days in April. We've heard and read such great things about both Ravello and Positano.
Appreciate your thoughts on whether you would stay up in Ravello and day trip down to Poistano, or vice versa. Also, any favorite restaurants? Many thanks! |
Either one in my opinion, Positano is nearer the water and Ravello is in the mountains with views of the water. You can't go wrong.

My husband and I have done quite a bit of traveling, and Positano is my favorite place in the world! We stayed at the Hotel San Pietro for a weekend. It is expensive, but worth every cent. Ravello was quieter and did not impress us as Positano did. Eat at "Black's at the Beach" restaurant for great seafood (Positano).

Hi Robert - I much prefer Positano - like KP it's one of my favourite places in the world.
http://www.pbase.com/mightyone/positano I can happily stay in Positano for a week - whereas couple of hours in Ravello is enough for me. From Positano you can easily day-trip to Ravello - and visit Amalfi en route. Positano is also better placed for other day-trips - Capri, Pompeii, Sorrento etc. Ravello is inconvenient for day-trips as you always have to go via Amalfi - repeating the same road every time. Hope this helps ... Steve |
Hi R,
I would stay in Positano and visit Ravello. There is much more to do in Positano. ((I)) |
We stayed in both and much preferred Ravello - while it, too, was touristy it was not nearly as much as Positano (at least when we were there). We found it quieter but then that is just what we like - others may not.
You cannot go wrong either way! |
We stayed in positano which was charming. The views are great, restaurants are great & scenary spectacular. Great restaurant II Buco.
I just love this little village. |
If it's your first time to the AC, go to Positano, and day trip to Ravello. Positano has so much more to do, and offers easy access to Capri and Amalfi, too.
|
OK, it's Positano with a day trip to Ravello with lunch or dinner at Villa Maria.
Thanks for all the ideas! robert |
Im staying at Villa Maria (Ravello) for a few days in the end of March - trying to decide whether to spend my dining dollars there since Ive seen mixed reports - except for the terrace views, which may not be an advantage in March...
Any recent thoughts, also any good non-pricy recommendations in Ravello? (other than Cumpa Cusimo) |
We shall have a car in Ravello and think the opposite: a quiet place with easy travel throughout the region from Hot Parsifal.
