Positano or Praiano...where would you choose?

I have located two equally nice rental apts. one in Positano the other in Praiano, with maybe Praino tipping the balance a little in added rooms. I am considering which makes more sense. My husband and I are not so much into night life but our kids are 20 and 21 they will be with us and may enjoy the added bonus of checking the evening scene. Is bussing a practical way of getting around at night? Both of the rental locations are within walking distance of town centres. I am looking for the convenience of market/grocery shopping. Thanks for your insight

With a helpful nudge from Ira, we stayed a week in Praiano in September. Enjoyed it thoroughly. Smaller city, less hustle and bustle. Easy to bus to and from Positano and/or Amalfi. Not as much night life as Positano, but your sons can bus it--or rent a scooter. We shopped at a couple of small grocery stores that were adequate.

We have never stayed in Priano but have stayed in Positano three times. I think my twenty-somethings would prefer a busier atmosphere, so I vote for Positano. I'm having my ashes sprinkled over the place when I die, so that is how much I love it!!!!!! (Not any time soon, I hope.)

Hi A,

> Is bussing a practical way of getting around at night?

Depends on your gender, and how friendly you are.

I think that the buses stop running around 9:00 PM.

The Night Club Africana is about 1 km from the center of Praiano, not far from the Hotel Onda Verde.

That club is not open year around so you may want to check that. Praiano pulls up its sidewalks at 8pm so I would suggest Positano. There are some clubs there too and some other places where the young hang out.

Ira,
what do you mean by "how friendly you are" Should I be concerned for my daughters if they are out at night?

Hi A,

>what do you mean by "how friendly you are"

Look up "busses" and "buses".

We have stayed in Praiano 4 times and love it. Quiet, not crowded, total lack of dozens of shops trying to sell you 24 Euros T-shirts, etc. No, it's not a place for nightlife but that's what we want. The Africana night club is a short walk away but I'm not sure of it's hours. You can check it out at http://www.africananightclub.it/
There are two nice little stores that we shop for bread, cheese, meats, fruit, soft drinks, etc., for our lunches on the patio.
