Positano or Lake Como

Hello everyone,

I have already posted a gazillion questions, so please forgive me if my screen name is haunting you! At this point, my fiance and I would like to marry ( a symbolic wedding) in either A) Positano or B) Lake Como. Has anyone who has been to both offer any commentary to help choose?

It would be in July...is Lake Como cooler? Is Lake Como cheaper? Personally I think Positano is about the most beautiful thing on Earth, but I am struck by Lake Como is well.

Also, would 4 days in either be enough time. We are just looking to marry, relax, eat, do a little shopping, and then head off to Rome/Florence/Venice/Germany.

Thanks a bunch!

~Erin

In July, I think Lago Como is a better choice.

There are few places which can beat Villa Balbianello on Lake Como for a wedding. See http://www.italianlakeswedding.com/b...-on-lake-como/

I love both locations, but Lake Como would definitely be cooler in July. I don't know your budget, but there are some fabulous, well-known hotels, to name two, Grand Hotel Villa Serbelloni in Bellagio and the Villa d'Este in Cernobbio, both right on the lake, if you wanted to splurge. There are also lovely villas to visit such as Villa Carlotta and Villa Balbianello. Villa Serbelloni has a car service that would bring you from Milan to the hotel and back (for a fee), and I'm sure Villa d'Este does as well.

In addition to being the more beautiful location for my eyes, any friends you invite will also have an easier time getting to your wedding

fortunately my first visit to amalfi/positano was late winter in 1968. each time i have returned i have been less enchanted. the reverse is true of my visits to the italian lakes. the scenery is sublime; the climate is delicious; the ferries relaxing and they all including como have a peacefulness that i fear is long past on the amalfi peninsula

congratulations on ur marriage

Sorry! I just realized my post didn't make it clear my vote is also for Lago di Como.

You guys all said Lake Como! Amazing...usually there are many varied opinions. In my mind, Lake Como feels like the right choice. There's something about Amalfi that seems unsettling, although I can't quite put my finger on it. Thanks for all the links as well!

Another place to consider for the wedding, on Lake Como and easy to reach by car. I have not been married there, or attended a wedding, but I did have dinner here and think the setting is lovely and would not be as pricey as some of the grander venues mentioned above:
