Positano or Amalfi?
I have ONE day to see either one of these places on my way from Capri to Rome ... taking the long way back through Salerno.
Please don't tell me I have to, and should spend more time down there and see the whole coast, on my time and resources I just can't, but would still like to get a taste, and get my feet wet, literally I hope. Thanks. |
You pass thru both enroute to Salerno. I would spend more time in Positano.

Given the choice, I'd see Positano over Amalfi because Amalfi is so small! It didn't take my husband and me more than an hour to get through the whole town--and that included eating lunch. Not that it isn't a lovely place, but still, I think you'd get more bang for the buck in Positano.
Unless you do what we did--lunch in Amalfi, local bus up to Ravello, buy huge amounts of pottery in Ravello, drop jaw numerous times at fantastic scenery and gardens and views in Ravello, hike the path down from Ravello back to Amalfi, and on to next destination. |
Positano gets another vote.
|
Positano it is! Thank you board.
|
If you have time, after Amalfi, drive up to Ravello to admire the view. Priceless!
|
Just been. Positano. Definitely.
|
OK then.
If you have only a few hours I'd go for Amalfi. Positano really doesn't have a town center. Just streets of shops going up the mountain. Amalfi has a town center. And of course, a 20 minute bus ride up to Ravello. Worth the ride up for the views as gailscout write. |
Positano! Amalfi is a larger town, but much less scenic.
|
Positano is just cuter than Amalfi! I vote for Positano too.
