I was actually a little shocked by the room at the Gritti. I think it was about $700US at that time and if I had paid that (which would never have happened) I would have been really annoyed!

On my last trip I stayed at the Pensione Accademia and was very pleased. (It is a hotel not a pension, despite the name)

I like that area (Dorsoduro) better than San Marco. But there are many good hotel options in Venice, especially if one is willing to pay in the range of what the Gritti charges.

Well like I said, leaning towards the Ca' Dei Dogi but sad that it doesn't have water views. Just checking out the Bucintoro and Ruzzini Palace. Heard of those? Positano the Sirenuse is just too expensive. Not able to swing it so now looking at The Hotel Poseidon and the Saraceni as well as the corner room at the Villa Franca...

Saraceni in Positano is looking pretty good. Ruzzini Palace in Venice has a great rate for 3 nights...
We were going to stay at the Quisisana in Capri but it was too much, now we are thinking of the Punta Tragara or Tiberio Palace. Anyone have experience with those?

I haven't stayed at the two hotels you mention in Capri, but take a look at HOTEL LUNA. We had two beautifully appointed rooms there with amazing water views. The hotel is only a few minutes away from the main shopping/restaurant area of Capri, and maybe a five minute walk form Quisisana, so it's really very central. It may not have the honeymoon appeal of Punta Tragara or Tibero Palace, but I doubt it costs as much, so you could use the money toward a wonderful dinner or a romantic day-long boat tour of the island.

And just to add on to what other posters above have been saying- I have been amazed many times at poor quality rooms for big money at the grander hotels. Make sure that if you do book at one of these hotels, you tell them it's your honeymoon, and when you arrive, ask to see the room first. Sometimes if the hotel is not fully occupied, a switch is possible if you ask right away.

Have a wonderful time on your trip!

Take a look at the Hotel California in Positano, same views as La Sireneuse, definitely not the price tag - we had a room with a balcony and enjoyed our stay very much.

We also stayed at Bucca di Bacco in Positano, it's a great find, sent some friends there two years ago, they loved it too, big rooms w/balconies overlooking the sea.
