Positano Lodging Recommendations

Hi just wondering if anyone had a great place to recommend to stay in Positano. Also, wondering if being higher up is better than being close to the beach (i.e. more restaurants, shops, sights)
Thanks!

Way back in 1998, we loved the Villa Franca:

But it was the most expensive place we stayed on that trip - we splurged for a few nights.

I don't think it matters all that much if you're high or low. It's not all that big a place.

Second the Villa Franca. get room 34 or 35. Views will make you melt.

Room 210 at Miramare...and be prepared for the stairs (difficult to avoid in Positano). The view from the very large terrace is magnificent.

Hotel Poseidon. Spectacular views from the room and restaurant terraces, amazing food, and great service. One of my favorite hotels to this date in Europe-- or anywhere!

Just returned from 4 wonderful nights in Room 34 at Villa Rosa (villarosapositano.it) which I would highly recommend. It was 150/night for a beautiful room with private bath and terrace with spectacular view (overlooking Le Sereneuse and L'Ancora which are much more expensive. They have the same view!) Less than 10 minute walk to beach. It was recommended by other fodorites which is why we selected it and we were very happy with everything there, especially our breakfast delivered to the terrace each morning. The further out you book, the better the room location they will give you, at least that's what they told us and we loved our location! I miss it just thinking about it. Have a wonderful trip!

Le Sirenuse. Worth every penny. Gorgeous rooms, gorgeous views, lovely breakfast on a terrace overlooking the water. Right in town so it's easy to walk to restaurants. If you have a car to get to other places on the Amalfi Coast, they have valet parking.

I second the Miramare. We were there in June we loved the it. We didn't have the coveted Room 210, we were in room 207 which was a Deluxe room and could not have been happier.

Sireneuse is beautiful but it will be double the price of any hotel mentioned for a nice seaview room.

We really liked Albergo California and there have been many positive posts here about it recently.

Try the Hotel Posa Posa, we liked it. Good breakfast, great A/C and great views from the balcony. www.hotelposaposa.com

I stayed at the Covo Dei Saraceni when I was there a couple years ago.

It is the hotel that is in ALL the pictures of Positano, with a pool on the roof.
It is right down on the water looking up at the town and down at the beach. Every room has a patio and view. It highly recommend it!
The restaurant was really good too.
I thought is was great to stay at the bottom of the town because at the end of the night, you can just stumle downhill and it made catching ferries SO easy!

Thanks for the recommendations everbody! We finally booked our stay at Marricanto. Very excited. It looks amazing!

I also booked marincanto in sept, looks like a great hotel from the website and reviews i have read.

It's also very affordable! We reserved a standard room with a sea view, and balcony for 200 euros a night.

We looked at Marincanto which is an awesome hotel but not having a pool blew the deal for us. It was 90+ everyday and it's expensive to go on the beaches there. 12 to 20E a person!
