Positano in October & Transportation

Hello -
Planning our first trip to Italy (honeymoon) in late October & early November (12 nights) and my question is two fold... By reading through numerous posts, I've got the general picture on getting there - train to Sorrento, car or bus (no taxi) to Positano, ferry schedules are touch and go in October. The Question - we'll have luggage, and I'm wondering about transportation to our hotel of choice within Positano. I assume from the map it's maybe about a mile down a winding road - our hotel is somewhat near the beach on the East side of the city. Does the so called "orange bus" pick up at the main road bus stops and move you closer into the beach?

My next question - is it ridiculous for us to be going to AC in October? I just happened across an old post that pretty much advised against it. Goal is not beach laying, but just chilling out for a few days in a nice sort of low key atmosphere (would also facilitate Pompeii on our way from AC to Rome, which we want to see) - it's our first stop. Next legs of the trip are Rome, Florence & Venice. Would we be better off trimming the days off AC and seeing another place more in the north with more "indoor" appeal - museums, etc...?

TIA... and pardon my long winded-ness

I don't think the Amalfi Coast would be my first pick for late October/November. Many restaurants, shops, tourist sites adopt shorter winter hours at that time of year, and/or close for renovations. Is there any chance you could visit during the fall shoulder season which is early September-beginning of October? I think you'd find everything about your stay, incl. the weather much more pleasant.

Hi Weadles -
Thanks for the input, unfortunately this is a honeymoon, so it is when it is... :)

Hi tams,

I believe that the SITA bus stops at both the top of the town and down at the beach.

If I'm wrong about that, the orange bus definitely stops at both the SITA stop at the top and again at the bottom near the beach.

Since you have only 12 days, I suggest flying into Venice, going to Florence, and exiting from Rome.

Save the AC for another trip.

Hi tams,

Congratulations on your upcoming wedding! I agree with Ira. Try to go to the Amalfi Coast another time, preferably during the spring or early fall.

Good luck!

tams:
as long as it's not raining, the Amalfi Coast will be gorgeous even in late October/early November. If you are risk averse, save it for another trip, otherwise, go for it anyway.

Honeymoon in October - congrats! I recently posted a message regarding the exact same trip, but in opposite order, in late October/early November - it's honeymoon part 4 for us :-) We're struggling as well with the AC in early November (1st week of). We really want to go, but are concerned about shut-down/weather. Have you made a decision yet for your trip? Either way, good luck and again, congrats!

I've gone to the AC in late October twice and it was beautiful. Everything was open and it was WARM. Go, it's awesome for a romantic interlude. Actually, I love it anytime. I've been there in Feb too. Quiet, but lovely.

Tams - If you arrive on the SITA bus from Sorrento, get off at the FIRST stop - Chiesa Nuova (Bar Internazionale).

Walk 10m back and turn left onto Via Pasitea. The orange bus picks up there and goes down the hill to Piazza dei Mulini - the nearest point to the beach (200m).

Hope this helps ...

Steve

P.S Where are you staying?
