Positano Hotels - Help
 

We have been booking a trip to Italy. Traveling are my wife, 23 yr old daugher and myself. My travel agent booked our airfare and then had to leave town. He suggested I book a couple hotels and when he returned we would finalize.

We booked these 3 hotels and when he returned he knew little about them and booked us at the Hotel Albergo California. The hotels we booked are:

1. Hotel Conca D?oro
triple Junior room (3 nights)
Cost for 3 nights is euro 720,00.
room has bath &/or shower, hairdryer, telephone, balcony with sea view.

2. Pupetto - Positano Triple 570.00 EUR 3 days

3. Bestwestern Pasitea
1 Junior Triple 660 EUR


Should we take Hotel California?

What do people know about the other properties?

I don't know about the others, but we stayed a week at the Hotel California and loved it. Be sure to ask for a room with a balcony; some rooms open on to the terrace. Our room was very large with beautiful tiled floors and a big tiled bathroom. The balcony seated two people and looked out over the town and the water. Breakfast is served on the terrace overlooking the town and water. It is next door to the Villa Rosa, but only has a few steps up. The Sirenuse is across the street. Maria and her husband speak excellent English. He lived in NY after World War II. She made any reservations that we wanted, including a car to Naples. It is where I plan to stay when we return next summer.

We stayed at Hotel Pasitea and were very happy. Hotels in the area have tile floors, mediterranean feel. Our room had a nice little terrace and French doors.
Some posters have mentioned lots of stairs to some hotels, this one is on the street level. It is a bit of a walk to the main shopping , but we liked being away from the traffic and there is a bus that makes the trip up and down the main road for 1 euro, if you aren't a walker.
Eat at Il Fornillo down the street. Very, very reasonable, and it's pasta heaven.
By the way, don't let Best Western name scare you away, it's a good franchise name in Europe and the hotel is lovely and very clean. Calling Best Western and asking for special rate for over 60 gets a discount. However, just before leaving, I found Expedia had reduced rate to 140 euro per night for a double.

My husband and I just returned from Positano in April and stayed at the Villa Rosa. For $130 Euros/ night you couldn't have asked for a better view and service. The climbed up the stairs to hotel was not nearly as bad as others on Fodors make it out to be - well worth the view and huge balconies where they serve breakfast to you every morning!

I agree with jend on Villa Rosa. We stayed there 3 weeks ago and I could not believe how large their balconies were.

And the view! Just wonderful!

I, too, loved the Villa Rosa (in 2001, when it was under $90!!--imaginez!), and I like to hear that others find it to be a great little place with a spectacular view!

In another direction: do others book more than one hotel? I must be naive, but I'd never think of doing that.
