Positano Handicapped Access

We will be traveling with one handicapped adult, not completely wheelchair bound but difficulty walking, especially stairs, are there taxis throughout Positano? Would it be hard to access Hotel Murat in center of town? What about getting down to the beach? Any advice greatly appreciated.

There is one road through Positano and it is fairly high up. There is a small bus that goes down to the area in front of the Duomo but the church itself is reached by steps. There is a ramp that goes from the main road to the Murat. Going downhill won't be bad, but it is a steep uphill incline. From the Murat, there are a series of steps down to the church and then to the beach. If your companion has difficulty with stairs, Positano is not the best destination.

Grinisa said it all. Positano is a city of stairs. Even those who aren't physically challenged can have difficulty getting back and forth from the beach, etc. Since the streets are so narrow ,( in many cases they are tiny alleyways) taxis are mostly used for arrivals/departures, and trips to other towns and restaurants.

Good luck!

Residence Villa Gabrisa was recommended to me for wedding guests that will have problems with stairs. It is on the other little beach and I believe you walk right up to the door from the street and it has first floor rooms. It looks very nice, with lovely balconies. They have a web site. It was recommended to me by my friends in Positano. The Best Western was on their list too! Of course, you can walk right into Le Sirenuse and they have an elevator. The Murat will require some walking, but once there, it is very close to the beach and the center of everything so they wouldn't have to walk too much. I agree with the others, that Positano is hard on just about everyone, so it will be very difficult to enjoy for someone with walking difficulties.

Grinisa - The minibus doesn't go down as far as the Duomo I think. It stops at the bottom of Via Colombo - then you still have a walk down the hill to the church. 250m maybe ... ?

Steve, you could be right. I've never taken it but thought I saw it in the small piazza/street down by the beach (but up a ramp or flight of steps) and yes, you'd still have to walk up steps to get to the Duomo itself.
