Positano Beach

In viewing the Webcam of Positano, it seems that the beach isn't very clean, or is it? When all of those boats are brought in at night and parked on the beach, it doesn't make for a clean beach.

Anyone with experience there, please comment.

Hi P,

>When all of those boats are brought in at night and parked on the beach, it doesn't make for a clean beach. <

Each boat is carefully scrubbed down and bleached before being wrapped in plastic wrap for the night. :)

From what I remember, it is a very clean beach. No trash.

The sand is sort of black.

Princess
Those boats are as clean as the sea you'll be swimming in.
The beaches of the AC have small pebbles, so if you are stepping out of that well known and loved fairy tale "Princess and the Pea", you will surely be tossing and turning on your fluffy pink beach towel!
Any trash I have seen there is left there by humans, not boats!

Well, I guess I just didn't know how the boats are cared for, - -" cleaned and scrubbed down and bleached before being wrapped in plastic wrap for the night!" Also, it does appear the the sand is sort of black. It looks like a beautiful town and hope to visit it some day and take a boat ride.

I've felt sorry for the town, though, because in viewing the web over time, I've noticed that their dock is ruined so often, and repairs are constantly being made.

The Sea will do that.

Princess, would you post a link to the Positano web cam? Being from a coastal fishing town myself, when the fishing boasts come in it isn't always super tidy, and you might get an occasional whiff of bait but that's all part of it's authentic charm!

Here's the link, Marcia:

Thanks for that, I did come across that cam later when looking at Le Sirenuse website. Does anyone know if the white stucco/red roofed building with the pool in the center of the webcam shot is the Poseidon?

massagediva Aug 18th, 2006 05:23 AM

That looks like a little slice of heaven!

MarciaMarciaMarcia Aug 18th, 2006 01:36 PM

Bumping to see if anyone know that building.

SeaUrchin Aug 18th, 2006 03:01 PM

We'll have to wait until daylight now!!

MarciaMarciaMarcia Aug 18th, 2006 03:11 PM

You can still see it illuminated in the center of the picture. It's right on the edge with the pool lit up.

MarciaMarciaMarcia Aug 18th, 2006 03:12 PM

Nevermind. They turned the pool light off. Will have to wait.

Just returned from Positano yesterday and spent a few days on the beach.
What would you like to know? And the white hotel is the Covo Dei Saraceni.

SusanMargaret Aug 18th, 2006 03:21 PM

We found the beaches to be clean, but the sand is dark and there are lots of pebbles. If, like me, you are something of a whimp, pack your surf socks.

SeaUrchin,

On my web address you can click on "High Resolution" under the two photos and the picture fills your whole screen. It's great.

SeaUrchin Aug 21st, 2006 09:29 PM

Wow, yes, that is great! Thanks.

The brach is grey gravel/pebble and clean enough but not very attractive - like all the beaches on the Amalfi coast. I've always thought I wouldn't fancy swimming off the main Positano beach, though, due to all the big boats going in & out, leaking oil etc. There are a few smaller nicer beaches in small bays in both directions. From the Positano dock you can get one of two small shuttle boats to Spiaggia Laurito which is the bay past the Hotel San Pietro - prettier & quieter, but still grey & stony.
