Positano

My husband and I will be staying at Palazzo Murat in Positano in June. We are thinking of touring Pompeii from there, possibly Isle of Capri, Blue Grotto. Does anyone have any pointers or ideas for us on sights, etc in that area?

All of the places you mention are worth a visit. The Grotto Azzuro (Blue Grotto) in Capri is amazing. Also try there is a great walk around the island (which takes you away from the hustle and bustle) on which you'll find the ruins of some Roman baths and the best local pasta at Le Grotelle (this site has some good pictures of the walk: http://www.portanapoli.com/Eng/Capri/body_ca_tip.html).
Another good excursion is Amalfi with its amazing cathedral and Ravello (short bus trip up the mountain from Amalfi).
If you have time you may also want to venture into Naples, a beautiful city, or visit Vesuvius.

Hi mbj,

Try a search on this forum for "capri AND Blue Grotto".

Someone posted a very detailed report on how to get around Capri.

Thanks for the great advice! I have printed it out and we shall use the information you all gave us!

Can't believe we are leaving two weeks from now! We are totally excited as this is our first trip to Italy.

We will be 5 days in Venice, 3 in Florence, 3 in Rome and 3 on the Amalfi Coast. We will take trains to get around but do have a driver picking us up in Naples and transporting us to Positano.

Any other comments or advice you have would be much appreciated.

I will post trip reports!

By the way, we have a laptopw/wireless capability but are planning to leave it at home. Is that a mistake? It would be great to access news, etc. while we are in Italy.

Grazie mille!

NO, it is not a mistake.

You will be on vacation. If you want to ruin it by keeping up with the news you can get an English language newspaper.

All the above advice is excellent.

Capri is so beautiful. Consider doing the walk along the Tragara which has spectacular views, public gardens, homes, the Cathusian monastery and you are away from the crowds.

Pompeii is also a very worthy excursion, but don't forget the towns on the coast--Ravello, Amalfi, Praino--all are wonderful.

June is around the corner...have a wonderful time!
