Portuguese Wines

Can someone identify a wine in Portugal that would be similar to either Pino Grigio or Sauvignon Blanc. We will be taking a tour in November and usually don't like the dry red wines that Portugal is famous for.

If you check out the thread entitled "Things to do in and around Lisbon", this topic was talked about by Matt and Lobo. I prefer Sauvignon Blanc and while I was in Portugal, I really enjoyed their vinho verde (young, white wine).

We enjoyed Vinho Verde when we were there.
I do not know the grape variety of this white, slightly spritzy, lower alcohol wine.
The name translates as "green wine" but it is really a little golden in color.

Sorry, I do not know the the equivilant of Sauvignon Blanc or Pinot Grigio in Portugal as I don't know if they grow those grape varieties.

Hope someone else can help you.

Vinho verde is much crisper, IMO, than a Sauvignon blanc or Pinot Grigio. I find it a bit "bubbly" even. I think it's best drunk with food.

Could you go to a liquor store and get some Portuguese whites that aren't vinho verde?
