Portuguese cheese

While visiting Portugal, I had the most wonderful cheese called Queijo da Serra. It was the color and consistency of brie but had a very strong, distinctive aroma. Does anyone know where I can buy some of this cheese now that I am back in the US?

Susan,

We had a similar experience in Austria this Spring with an Italian cheese. It was a very creamy cheese with a strong odor. Killer!!!!

I typed the word "cheese" into my Google search engine and many cheese shops popped up. I finally found the cheese available and ordered some.

It's worth a try.

Dick
What was the name of the cheese you ordered, Dick? Thanks.

xxx,

I'm looking at our original receipt from Innsbruk. The cheese is Robiola Quercino. I believe on the cheese shops it is listed as just Robiola.

Dick

One more thing. I just looked up the online cheese outfit. It is called igourmet.com. Not sure if they have that particular Portuguese cheese, but worth a try.

As I said earlier, even though we bought the cheese in Austria and thought it was an Austrian cheese, it proved to be an Italian cheese.

Dick

Susan, where do you live? If it's in the USA there are several portuguese comunities that usually have a grocery store with Portuguese products. That also applies for different european countries.
In fact, our "queijo da serra" is truly wonderful! Hope you can get it and prepare yourself to have a smelly kitchen:)

Teresa,
I live in the southeastern US. Are there any Portuguese communities in this area (perhaps along the Atlantic coast)?
Thanks

Susan, I really don't know if there is a portuguese comunity over there as I live in Portugal. But there must be one , as we have so many portuguese people living in the States everywhere.Hope you find what you're looking for.

Newark NJ has a huge, thriving Portuguese community, although many are from the Azores , rather than the mainland. The community is so large there is actually a Portuguese Consulate there, even though there is another one less than 30 miles away in New York City.
