Portugal: Porto hotels from US$80-125

Hi,

Looking for recommendations for hotels in Porto for late May in the US$80-125 range. Any suggestions -- including comments on why you like a particular hotel, ambience/amenities, any dislikes about it and its price -- are greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

John H.

Hello John H.!
If you could be more specific about what are you looking for i'd be glad to help you.
Meanwhile take a look at this website:www.maisturismo.pt
There you can find hotels in Porto and some information about rates and location.
If any doubts arrive,post again.

-

Thanks for your response, Wells. I have looked at both the Porto Carlton and the Grande Hotele de Porto in Porto itself. Have also looked at the Santa Luzia pousada in Viana Do Castelo. Any comments on either of these hotels (location, "charm," etc) and/or the desirability of staying in Porto itself versus staying in Viana Do Castelo (which I understand is about 45 minute drive from Porto) would be appreciated.

Much thanks.

John H.

John you may want to check out this travelogue website that has a report on a recent trip to Portugal. It's quite informative and includes a section on Porto. I've copied the link directly to the report below but if it doesn't work just go the home page (www.thetravelzine.com) and the link is right there.

http://www.thetravelzine.com/0901portugal(1)_porto(1).htm

Thanks,Maddy,

I accessed that thread yesterday and it proved very helpful. Confirmed my choice of the Porto Carlton. Thanks for recommending it.

John H.

If the exhange rate now is as good as it has been in recent years, you should have your pick of hotels. We stayed at the Infante de Sagres, arguably the top hotel in Porto, two years ago for under $100 per night.

I second the Infant de Sagres. It is a very charming, old world hotel. I stayed there in August 2000 for about $125/night which included a huge buffet breakfast in the formal dining room.

We stayed and the Infante de Sagres last week (May 2002) for $100 per night. Our room was small but fine. The hotel is great, quite posh with a great breakfast. The best part is the location which is great.

The $100 a week is Euros by the way.
