<Sometimes you think you are renting from a company and turns out to be a broker. >
I'm not sure how that would happen, ___ For example, once we rented a car in Santiago and the receipt said one company and the buliding said something else. |
<i>For the cheapest pricing, you can check the foreign sites of the two brokers I mentioned above; you may find prices less than those on the US-based .com sites.
For example, check Autoeurope.es, as well as Autoeurope.com. </i> Possibly, although it might be at full insurance price (no declining of the CDW), there might be a daily mileage limitation, and a one way fee. |
Yes, Michael, you have to be careful to check all conditions. But for the last few years, we have made at least two trips per year to Spain and/or Italy. Almost each trip we have rented a car using one of the two brokers mentioned above.
I have rented from both Spanish and Italian broker sites and saved quite a bit of money with equivalent conditions. This is not always the case, but it certainly pays to check and, as you noted, there is a bit of homework to make sure you are getting a good deal in both price and coverage. Once or twice I have asked AutoEurope (by phone, here in the US) to match the price on their Italian site and they did so. I believe I discussed this quite a bit on previous threads. Here is an excerpt from a long thread I started in 2011, showing price comparisons. ekscrunchy on Mar 16, 11 at 11:26am UPDATE: <One week automatic rental with p/u and return at Bari airport Offered on AutoEurope.com: VW Golf=US$711. Offered on AutoEurope.it website: Nissan Micra @ 442 euro (now $US 587) with reimbursable deductible rented from Avis Offered on phone by AutoEurope.com rep, after I mentioned prices found on AE's Italian site and asked for the best price deal: Peugeot@ 390 euro, or $543 with reimbursable deductible rented from Europcar; add a few dollars for foreign exchange fees incurred on some credit cards. Motto: check various websites; once you make the phone call, ask if another local rental agency offers a lower price with same conditions; you must often agree to pay in euro to receive the best deals, in my experience. There are quite a few threads on this forum discussing this topic, and comments from a few posters who have also saved money using foreign broker or rental agency sites. |
