Portugal - Is it warm enough for beach in March?

WE are thinking of Portugal for spring break. So far, from my VERY LIMITED research, we are considering the areas slightly north and south of Lisbon.

ONe place we think we might stay is a resort near Obidos. is it warm enough for the beach that time of year? (the kids want to know!!!)

You might try the www.worldclimate site for the general weather patterns.

Not unless you are really lucky or from Canada! ;)

Cheers,
Jan

No, in March it usually is still cold, well not too cold but it isn't beach weather. But you never know, you might be lucky, this year we had an excellent weather in March. But it isn't always like that.

Just one more thing, the north is colder than the south. If you go to the Algarve you surely have more chances to go to the beach than in the north .

Thanks all. I did look at a climate chart on a web site and I think the high for that time of year was in the 70's. I did not want to beleive it!! But I wanted to ask someone who has actually been there then.
Hmm, I guess we will skip frolicking in the waves :)

I have done Portugal twice in March. The water will be cold--it is the Atlantic not the Med. Enjoy Portugal, forget the swimming.

Hi Bobthenavigator,
Do you have any suggestions? Where were your favorite places?
We will be with 2 of our 3 children - young teens..
One loves ancient castles/fotresses, etc..
I am just starting to do my research, can't wait!!! Have been to Spain 3x, are they very different ?

My favs included Obidos, Nazare, Viano do Castello, Marvao, and Evora. We saw Lisbon by staying in Cascais and taking the local commuter train to town. We also drove up to Sintra and back via Colares and the coast. Good luck !

Hi..

It is NOT warm enough around Obidos....the beach may be OK, but the North Atlantic is cold all year...especially in March.
