Portugal: Drive from SIntra to Obidos
Hello- We'll be in Portugal in April, staying the first 3 nights in Sintra, then onto Obidos for one night, then 3 nights in Belmonte. We will have a rental car leaving Sintra.
If we take the coastal road from Sintra to Obidos, do you have any recommendations for stops along the way. Great scenery, or coastal walks would be perfect. Do any of the towns stick out as the one to spend an hour or two in? Maybe a farmer's market? Is it worth taking the time to make the entire drive along the coast, as it would be quicker to just do a section of it, and stick to the major A-8 the rest of the drive? Thanks. |
Sintra to Óbidos
It's an interesting drive. You can follow the N-247 from Sintra, passing through São João das Lampas, Carvoeira, São Pedro da Cadeira and Ribamar before ending up in Óbidos. While you're at it, you might as well drive out to the traditional fishing port of Peniche (where you take a boat out to the Nature Reserve on the Island of Berlengas) before heading into Óbidos. Peniche is also where the surfers like to go for the really big waves, and is probably the most interesting village along this part of the coast. The drive covers a little over 100 kms and can be done in a couple of hours, without stops.
