Portugal Car Rental
 

Hello, I am wondering if anyone has ever rented a car in Lisbon, Portugal and driven to Lagos from Lisbon. How is the drive there and any suggestions on the best car rental companies/price wise as well. We would be looking for a minivan.
Also, has anyone here been to Sao Miguel in the Azores and rented a vehicle as well? Any tips would be greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance!

We rented a car from Auto Europe in the Lisbon airport - but didn't go towards Lagos - headed to Evora. The process went quite quickly and easily and once we were out of Lisbon we found the Portuguese roads very easy to drive and navigate. enjoy

We rented in Porto and drove all the way to the Algarve. The roads are in good condition and traffic on the highways isn't dense.
We always rent through a broker on an 'all inclusive' basis (CDW/TP without excess, PAI, etc.), either www.sunnycars.com or www.autoeurope.com. In all those years we've had cars from various rental companies such as Avis, Hertz, Sixt, but also from smaller local companies. Never had any problem so far.

I suggest Kemwell for car rental. I've used them in Spain and Portugal. Great customer service and best prices. They are a consolidator. Also feet the built in toll pass. The charges go directly to your credit card. We lived driving in Portugal. We picked out our car up on our way out of Lisbon and dropped it off in Porto. Do not drive in these cities! We picked up a car from AutoEurope in Lisbon, drove to Spain, and returned it in Lisbon - was from Europcar. Have driven on Sao Miguel and other Azores islands. Don’t remember the rental companies, but, again, no problems.

definitely get the little gizmo that pays the tolls automatically - otherwise it is a major pain in the neck.
