Portsmouth ferry terminal

We will be taking the Le Havre to Portsmouth ferry and then training it to London. When booking train tickets we are offered various Portsmouth departure stations. Can we safely presume that Portsmouth Harbour is the one to choose? If so, how far is it and is the transfer easy? If we ended up staying in Portsmouth overnight, would we be better off choosing another station? By the way, I think the ferry is a fast speed catamaran if that makes any difference to its arrival point.
Many thanks.

Yes, Portsmouth Harbour is at the harbour.

If you stay overnight, probably Portsmouth & Southsea, which is the main Portsmouth station, but it might depend on where exactly you stay.

Portsmouth Harbour station is at the south end of the harbour, but the only ferries it serves are the foot ones to Gosport and the Isle of Wight.

The ferry terminal for ferries to France is further north, with better road connections, since most passengers will have their cars, or will be driving lorries. The nearest station to this ferry terminal is called Portsmouth & Southsea. Trains start at the Harbour station and all then pass through Portsmouth & Southsea a few minutes later.

In practice, the cost and time involved in a taxi ride to either station will be much the same.

You'll be coming on LD Lines into Portsmouth International Port. Outside the terminal there is a taxi rank, costing about £5 to Portsmouth and Southsea station, or there is a shuttle bus. You will be arriving at 4.30 pm.

No point in staying overnight. Just take a direct train to London.

Thank you so much everyone. It's so good to know there are helpful people out there helping with the little but important details.
