Portovenere with baby
We are planning a trip to Portovenere in October with our 3-month baby. We are considering staying at the Royal Sporting Hotel but are concerned about the 10-minute walk to town. Is it stroller friendly or will we be hiking with a little baby to and from the hotel?

Thanks for your help.

Hello,
We went to Portovenere a couple of years ago (before our baby) and from what I can remember for the town, itself, you should not have a problem. We actually stayed at the Royal Sporting Hotel as well. If you plan to go further into the Cinque Terre, however, it will be more like hiking and I would recommend a pack.
Have a great time! The Cinque Terre is beautiful!!

I stay in the CT several times a year as I have family friends there. I got to Portovenere from the CT via the 5-Terre boat. It took me directly to the Portovenere dock, right in front of the shops and restaurants. I would NOT recommend hiking from Portovenere to the CT with a baby. You could either take a boat back and forth, or bus into La Spezia, then train up to the CT (~15 minutes away).

Dear Justine,
I don't think you'll have any problems. There is a sidewalk beside the beach and it goes from right by the hotel (across the street) to the center of town. We saw a lot of families strolling the waterfront. The good thing is that the walk is flat, and you'll have no trouble doing it with a stroller. The "center" is flat, but if you want to explore the rest of the town, however, you'll want to take the baby in a snuggli, because it does go up a hill. But it's also a lot less challenging than some of the Cinque Terre towns.
By the way,I didn't do the entire walk between all 5 of the towns, but I remember reading that at least part of the walk was very easy, and you should be able to do it with the baby.
I loved Portovenere; it's beautiful and extraordinarily relaxing.
