No one here is sayig that a person with a tight schedule in London should make the markets a priority...but if you have lots of time, have seen the big sights, or just want a break from "sightseeing" there are some very interesting crafts and finds at the markets in London.
But let's not argue about it...if this doesn't interest you...please don't go there! Frankly if too many do, there will be fewer finds for people like Kavey and me!

Absolutely!
The thing with somewhere like Camden is that some of us enjoy it and some don't.
It's kind of the same for most attractions isn't it?
All you can do when taking advice from strangers is to try and get a feel from other posts as to whether that person generally likes the things you do and go on that.
I respect all the opinions given (well most of them, not all) but I pick and choose which ones to heed depending on how much my own travelling style and preferences click with the person giving the advice!
MKingdom has what is probably excellent advice for someone who likes the upper class experience all the way and is no doubt really helpful to that kind of traveller but doesn't impact on my planning.
And the great thing about London is that if you don't like one place you can just hop on the tube and be at another within minutes!!!!

Kavey:There are also LOTS of small stall holders who hand make their craft and clothes and that's the stuff that pulls me. It's stuff you couldn't just pick up in the local shopping centre.
I said in London "shops". There are lots of them selling handmade items in much pleasanter surroundings. Take a look around. ; )))

Not liking the London markets has nothing to do with "class experience". I enthusiastically shop markets in other cities that do sell well-made unique items that I couldn't buy anywhere else in the world.
London markets aren't anywhere near that level (may I say junk?) and I think they are a bit of a hoax inspired by films like "Notting Hill" (which was mentioned here) and perpetrated on tourists as recreation.
As you say, to each his own but my advice offered as one who has wasted her time is to skip them. : D))))

obxgirl I got both your emails but have sent 3 to you and don't seem to be getting through. I sent from my hotmail account in response to your first email and it seemed to go through ok but then I got your second so I emailed again and it bounced back. I tried from my main account but that also bounced back. Do you have another email address you can email me with? If not, perhaps we'll try and touch base another time. Kavey
