Porto parking spot?

We're staying about an hour east of Porto in an Airbnb overlooking the Douro. We plan to visit Porto by car for a long day of exploring. Is there a preferred place to park the car then spend the day walking to various sites?

We can also re-visit Porto on another day if we feel that we want to see more. We know we’d like to visit the famous bookstore and a Port house in Gaia. What sites do you think are essential to visit?

Parking can be found when using this site. Information includes prices too.

Have you considered taking the train into Porto? Then you would not have to worry about driving, traffic, parking.. and you could drink more Port :)

That's a good idea that I will check into. We are staying at an Airbnb near São Lourenço do Douro. How do we find a station near this location. Will also need how to access their schedule. Thank you for your reply.

The train info is here - https://www.cp.pt/passageiros/en

to find a station, ask your landlord or use Google?

Public transport option is not so easy.

They don’t have to do public transportation all the way. They have a car. Drive to the nearest station and park.

Probably the best station is Mosteirô. But a landlord would know better than Rome 2 Rio (or me.)

I thought you as encouraging them to use public transport to do the whole trip.

Forget about using public transport. The time you arrive to Porto would be more or less the time you would have to depart.

So, just use the car.

Where to park: if you are coming really early in the morning, you can drive easily to the city center. Park the car at São Bento train station car parking (Rua do Loureiro, 39-21, 4000-326 Porto), maximum cost 10 euros (in 24 hours). If you don't want to drive to the city center, choose a place outside city center near a metro station (some metro stations have parking spots, and they are free). I cannot advise you an that, because I use always the same metro station, Viso. I park in the street at 8am, lots of spots available, and there is a police station nearby (besides other things). From there you can take the metro to the city center.
