Porto or Funchal, Madeira for New Years and Birthday?
 

Planning a trip to celebrate a 40th birthday on New Years Eve with a group of friends. Deciding between Porto and Funchal, Madeira but can't choose. Where is NYE more fun?

Madeira
The really famous fireworks which is great,
What about the general vibe and atmosphere? Is it very touristy or more local/authentic?
Are there rooftop parties on NYE?
Warm enough to lounge/tan? Assuming you cant swim at this time of year.

Porto
Colder than Madeira
As a bigger city, is it more fun and festive and more authentic/local?
Are there any rooftop parties or is everyone just in the street parties?
Lots of options for day trips
