I would not walk the streets at night in this area...

I was there in February; not sure I think it is even safe during the day! It is VERY crowded in the flea market area - across the street is a huge hotel that looked like its sidewalk had not been swept in weeks. There were a number of homeless or alcoholics on the street too. I would be very careful.

Kilmej, I think you were inquiring about the rue Monge area earlier. That is a much better choice, closer in to the center and more accustomed to visitors.

I don't know about its safety, I'll defer to the others on that (although I know of no flea market there, so think that post may be thinking of somewhere else), but this is on the very edge of southern Paris, some hotels that advertise as being in that area are not even in Paris, but outside it. I would recommend you do not stay there as it is very far out and inconvenient, and not attractive or Parisian-feeling. It's near the big roadway around Paris.
