porte de montreuil area in Paris
Is anyone familiar with the area of Porte de Montreuil. Is it safe, clean etc?
|
Well, any "Porte de" is on the very outskirts of the city, in this case due east of the center of Paris, not far from the Père Lachaise cemetery.
It certainly wouldn't be a great choice of area to stay in, given the fact that Paris is chock full of great hotels in much nicer areas. |
Arce,
I agree with StCirq. Though I've only been to Paris twice, I can't think why anyone would want to stay so far out when there are so many wonderful options at all price ranges in the heart of the city. Of course, if you have business near there, or friends you're staying with or visiting close by, that's different. Otherwise... |
Hi arce,
Why are you considering staying there? ((I)) |
Please note that any hotel with a zip (area) code other than 75... will not be in Paris proper, and this is the case with many properties with "porte de ..." in their name ("porte" means gate) which are built slightly outside the city limits because land is cheaper. The town of Montreuil itself is one of the inner suburbs of Paris. Traditionnally a working-class area, it is now gradially gentrifying, with the arrival of "bobos" from Paris.
Like many other Paris "gates" areas, porte de Montreuil is a high-transit area, with means possible noise, a little roughness, and mixed crowds. However, it has a métro station and a flea market (junk and used clothes mostly). If this is a holiday stay and you are not on transit on the périphérique, I would choose another location. |
