Porta Porteza market, Rome?

Has anyone been to the Porta Porteza flea market in Rome? I saw a mention of it in Rick Steves. Is it worth going? I'd love to find something old and different to bring home. Or is it more of a Florence-San Lorenzo Market type of place? Many thanks!

Do you mean the Porta Portese market on Sunday? I think it is vastly overrated. Filled with lots and lots of junk. You may be able to unearth something unusual or fun but to me, it wouldn't be worth fighting through the huge crowds. Great place for being pickpocketed. If you are looking for antiques, you might do better shopping on Via di Coronari. Some nice antique prints can be found at the little outdoor market in Largo Fontanella Borghese.

Yes, sorry, I meant Porta Portese, that's what I get for trying to spell from memory!!

Thanks for the tip, that is exactly what I was hoping to find out. The antique prints sound charming! You mention they are in an outdoor market. Is bargaining ok in that market, too? Would you ever recommend trying to bargain for the antiques in the shops you mention on Via di Coronari? Since I haven't seen those shops, I'm not sure what to expect...I don't want to offend anyone if the price is set, but I also don't want to pay more than I should! Any advice? Thanks, Grinisa!

You can bargain at the print/book market and you can ask the antique dealers on Via di Coronari if that is their "best price" or if you could have a "sconto" (discount).

That is perfect. Exactly what I will say! Thanks very much.
