Port Vendres/Couliorre

Will be docking here next summer on a cruise. Any suggestions of what to do/see?

I should have also asked - Will you have access to car transportation (rent yourself or hire a driver).

Collioure (note correct spelling) could occupy your entire day if you choose to have an extended lunch there, catch some rays on the beach, wander around town.

The coast north of Collioure is not very scenic - especially compared to the coastline south of Port Vendres and into the Costa Brava region in Spain.

If you have seen enough water & coast by now on your cruise, a trip to Ceret, and then into the Pyrenees along the Tech river to Prats de Mollo (with a walk through the Gorges de la Fou) would be a nice change of scenery from water & coastline.

If you choose to not visit Collioure, trips into the Pyrenees along the Tet river to Villefranche or a trip to the Cathars castles north of the scenic D117 would be other possibilities.

If you decide to rent a car and are interested in more details about these drives into the Pyrenees, let me know & I'll post more info about specifics.

I'll be gone most of today & tomorrow - so you may need to wait a bit if you don't hear back from me. If you have not head back from me, "top" on Monday so I can see your post.

Last year, we rented a house in this area & spent 2 weeks exploring the region.

If you stay the day, notice the unusual lighthouse that is part of the church and the Majorcan "Royal Castle" rising from the very edge of the water. It's a lovely harbor in this Catalan fishing village. Anchovies are the specialty.
The Chateau Royal has a Catalan folk museum.

I usually hire a driver to see the local sights. Looking for a place where we have a nice lunch and enjoy the local culture.
