Porsche - Stuttgart
 

Can the Porsche factory in Stuttgart be reached via public transportation? We might be able to get a behind the scenes factory tour next summer but I'm not sure if we can get to the factory without a car. Anyone done this tour before? Is it worth it?

We didn't do the tour, only the museum which is a total joke. After looking at the first little room of maybe 20 cars we went to the desk to find out how to get the rest of the museum and found out we'd seen the whole thing! But everyone says the tour is great. We got there by train. Only at our hotel they told us to get off at a stop too early and we had quite a walk to get there. I can't tell you the right name of the stop, but it is right by the factory. When you get off there, there will be no doubt how to get to the factory. No car needed!

By the way, while Porsches themselves may be a whole lot more exciting that Mercedes, don't miss the Mercedes museum -- it is really wonderful.

sorry, have never done a tour (even I live near by and work for a customer of Porsche ...). Well, if You like to see how Porsche work, or if You are interessted in industrial things, it is worth.

A tour is about 1.5 hours.

One thing is, You have to be exactly in time. For You miss Your tour You normaly cant take the next ? they are full booked, especially the english guided tours.

For I havent done this I dont know where those tours start, but I guess at the main entrace (Werk 1) in Zuffenhausen. This is easy to reach from Stuttgart downtown (or the surroundings) via S-Bahn 6 (d-train). Leave the train at "Neuwirtshaus" and You are right in front of the Porsche center.

PS: The porsche Museum is poor, just about 20 cars. The Mercedes-Benz museum is a hit, but it is right on the other end of town.

A taxi is public transportation, right? So, in that regard, you can get there by "public transportation" - - otherwise I wouldn't think there is anystraightforward way by bus, and no subway in Stuttgart that I know of.

It is certainly true that the "museum is a one room, barely-whet your appetite ordeal.

But the factory tour was phenomenal, in my opinion. I tried on my own to get a tour with no success - - it was for a friend of mine who is an owner, and was contemplating purchasing a second at the time. His dealer got him (and me) in with a minimum of difficulty it seems.

Rex, trains are also called public transportation. You can get a local train right in Stuttgart and it will stop right in front of the factory. Thanks to garmel for providing the name of the station to get off at "Neuwirtshaus". No need for a taxi. And there are signs showing where to go for the museum and tour. It's not the giant building you see from the train station, but near by. Well marked for walkers.

Once again, Fodorites are the best. I couldn't figure out how to get to the factory via train so I appreciate all the input. Now I've got to get my source working on the tour. Thanks.
