Porquerolle Island

We have just learned of this island near Toulon.

We will be staying in Provence and wondered is it worth visiting here for a few days? The hotel "Mas de Langouste" has been recommended.

Any info on car travel time from St. Remy to the island would be helpful as well as logistics for a car re island visit.

Personal experiences please, no websites.

Thanks.

The island is called Porquerolles. I visited it once on a day trip: I was staying in Toulon and went by bus to La Tour Fondue then by boat. It seemed a delightful place, but there's no real need to stay overnight there. You can't take cars over there. For the boat services, see www.tlv-tvm.com, but several other firms run summer excursions.

Not much to do and see in Porquerolles. I was there for a few hours, during a cruise, and had no desire of staying longer. Provence itself is more interesting, IMHO.

..unless you're very much into nature ( no stunning views there, however), hiking, biking... Otherwise, the island is pretty boring.

We helped friends plan a honeymoon trip that included the Porquerolles and of all the places they went (on the Riviera) it was what they liked least. I'd say don't spend your time.
