Pop-ups

Is it just my own cookie monster, or has Fodors tied a REALLY IRRITATING pop-up to the main "travel talk" screen? (Orbitz.com - enough, already.)

I don't mind advertising, but please, Fodors, don't do it that way.

There are ways to stop them.

Pop up ads!! Hey what happened to the no advertising policy???

I know there are ways to stop them, but I've found most pop-up filter programs are highly clunky and either prone to failing or killing off screens you want, depending on the scripts. Why doesn't Fodors just let them buy a banner, like the other advertisers?

An alternative: I bookmark this Europe forum page, bypassing the main Travel Talk screen.

Isn't it possible for the advertiser to attach their popup to a website without permission? I seem to remember very irritating hotwire popups every time I went to travelocity or expedia for a while. I'm sure they weren't doing it with permission.
