Pop-Up Stopper by Panicware, does it work for you?
Went to the archives for info on pop-up stoppers. Although some of the responses were from last year, consenus seemed to recommend Panicware's attempt. I "bought it" and downloaded it last night. It hasn't stopped the pop-ups! Have you had the same trouble? Any suggestions?
Thanks, Ashcanannie |
Forgot to say that I use aol. I don't know if that makes a difference or not.
Thanks! |
I use the pop-up stopper our isp offered. It is the kind that installs on the toolbar of the IEXPLORER. It is set to aggressive pop-up stopper and seems to work very well. To force pop up using Javascripts on sites that does need this feature, such as seat reservation chart that pops up in the same window, repeat clicking the button. It seems to know that if I repeat it, I want the pop up in this instance.
I do not use AOL. |
I downloaded the free stopper from Panicware and it works very well with my cable connection using Netscape. When I use AOL, I still get popups. Did you pay for the download?

May I then suggest taking a look at the Mozilla package (which is what Netscape is based) which has a built in pop-up stopper that only stops the unwanted ones. Whenever you press a button requesting a popup it pops up as it should. It is of course open-source and free and also has tabbed browsing functionality. If you don't want the full package you can try the Firebird browser only version though the mail client in Mozilla now even has a working spam filter :) If you are interrested take a look at www.mozilla.org </browser advertisement> Cobos |
Thanks so much for the info. I'll look into the various suggestions! I HATE pop-ups! They are on the level of those "interrupting sales phone calls" at dinner!

I use the pop-up stopper which is part of the Norton Internet Security package, and it works pretty well except for the grey Messenger Service pop-ups. I have tried various suggestions to stop them, and the only one that works for me comes from http://www.auburn.edu/oit/security/m...erService.html.

I use the free version that I downloaded from download.com and it works very well. I do not know what version you have, but if you right click on the icon, you should be able to set your preferences. The pop-up stopper part may not be enabled.
