Am I the only one that gets several pop up ads for travel related sites? How can I delete them? Thanks for your help.

Your internet service provider is the place to go. Usually, you can purchase a version that includes pop-up blocker. Even then, a few will get through for some reason. Good luck.

Google ad-blocker stops some of them, but not the ones on this site.

My Norton Internet Security software nabs those annoying pop up ads.

I downloaded Service Pack 2 for windows explorer from Microsoft. It has increased security (not that increased from sloppy is a whole lot better) and pop-up blocking built-in.

Now in explorer when I click the tools drop-dwon menu, I have pop-up blocker options.

It blocks pop-ups quite well.

You could also stop using IE and use Mozilla Firefox.

It blocks popups and is far more secure than IE

Will my favorites folder be trnsferred to Firefox automagically?

I use Mozilla firefox as well, but I don't know about transferrring Favorites

I do know that there are a <u>few</u> retail websites (amazon seems to be one) that don't seem to work as well with Firefox when it comes placing orders.
For amazon now I go back to IE.

Yes, your bookmarks, etc. are transferred automatically by Mozilla. Downloading is a breeze.....nothing to it. Try it.

Will Mozilla Firefox work with Mac OS 9.2? Any pointers for making the change if it's possible with my current OS? I'm on a G4.

Mozilla will run on a G4, but not with Mac OS 9. You need OS X (10). Of course, if you have OS X, you can run the Mac browser Safari that comes with it, and have a built-in popup blocker.

I'm surprised you don't have OS X -- I thought all G4s came with it installed.

I've been very happy with Safari. I'm running it on a G5 iMac with OSX. The pop-up blocking feature works like a charm.

My wife is using Firefox on her G4 iBook and raves about it. No problem stopping pop-ups either.

(We are a Mac house ... there's an old G3 in the den. It looks like we're trying to collect the whole series!)

I use the current version of Netscape (which is the same browser as Firefox). Not only does it block popups and make it easy to manage what sites you allow to have popups or cookies, but YOU ARE MUCH LESS LIKELY TO GET THE VARIOUS SPYWARE that infest computers using Internet Explorer.

Just use IE when you are on a website where you have to use it, then close it and run Ad-aweare, Spybot Search &amp; Destroy.

I go along with Oldie. I started using Firefox and poop ups went pop, or is it popups went poop.

Pop-up problems are also sympomatic of more serious spyware/malware problems. A good, free spyware detection program is Ad-Aware (www.lavasoft.de) Make sure you update the definitions before running a scan on your system. It finds most (but not all) spyware on your system. And some is very difficult to get rid of if it's embedded in your computer's registry - it keeps coming back even after you delete it.

I am another happy firefox convert -- it works wonderfully, even on my win98 clunker. You can also download &quot;themes&quot; to change the look of your icons. I'm using scribblies -- it is so NICE to see soemthing other than those standard issue icons up there :)
