Pool in Positano

We will be spending a week in Positano this June with another couple. Is a pool a necessity and what are people's thoughts about staying down by the beach versus higher up?

It depends on how much a pool and swimming is important to you. Some people never set foot in a poor or the ocean. I think it would be nice to have a pool in June to cool off after touring.

If you are high up in town you have the views of the town and the sea. If you are closer to the sea you will have better access to it.

Can you walk easily? There are stairs and ramps in Positano. Some people don't want to navigate them every time they go to the hotel. Depends on if you are going to spend more time up on the road or down by the sea.

I would opt for a pool if swimming is important. The 'beach' is terribly rocky to the point of finding it almost impossible to walk on barefoot. Plus, the past 2 Junes when we have visited the water is very cold in my opinion. As to staying near the beach or higher up - hands down, higher up. The view is to die for. The walk up the steps allows you those pasta and gelati indulgences!

Thanks for the input. Guess we'll go with being higher up and get a pool. Seems like Eden Roc will be a good choice for us.

Hi -
Another choice is Hotel Villa Franca. Relaxing by the rooftop pool and bar with amazing views was great. This hotel is the highest point when looking up from the beach. Hotel also has a hourly shuttle to return (walking down is fine).
Enjoy,
