Pont du Gard
Hi,
Does anyone know how to reach Pont du Gard from Avignon? Is it accessible by bus or train? Thanks on advance Sofie. |
Go to www.mappy.com for detailed directions. It's a short drive from Avignon.

Hi mcc, I Know you can take a bus from Avignon to the Pont du Gard.
The bus station is just outside the walls next to the older train station. |
There are a few buses to Remoulins, about a mile or two from the Pont du Gard. But in season you're better off asking locally about mini-buses that scoot out there from Avignon - ask the tourist office if your hotel doesn't know. Otherwsie the bridge, one of the most mesmerizing sights i've ever seen in Europe, is out in the middle of the sticks.

I, too, am sure you can get bus info at the Avignon tourist office. But no matter what it takes, you must get to Pont du Gard. It is truly astonishing from both an artistic and engineering standpoint. Along with the Pyramids, possibly the greatest man-made structure.

It's a beautiful ride, and Uzes is not very far away, which I also recommend.
Definitely go see this. It was my number one thing to visit on my first trip to Provence. |
mcc, remember my post last year about the excursion autocars? I told you they go to the Pont du Gard and Nimes on one day, Godes and Roussilon on another. The day schedule maybe changed since that time. They are located also at the cour de la gare.

Goodness! And to think I was almost going to give this one a miss! Your rave reviews have certainly convinced me.

hopingtotravel, did you read Fisher's "The Boss Dog," that'll make you love Aix!

Agree with flygirl...Pont is very interesting . We stayed in Uzes and can highly recommend it especially at weekends for its huge markets ( foodstuffs on Sat and flowers on Sun). Have fun!

Mimi, I haven't read that one either. I have an incredible list of books to get through in the next 6 weeks. I've kept the local library busy. Thanks for the suggestions.
