Pompeii to Siena
Part of our Italy plan is to leave Rome and travel to Pompeii for a day trip then get a train to Siena. Does anyone know if there is a direct ride or does it involve changing trains? Also, is anyone familiar with the time it takes?
Thanks. |
LB - All in one day?? Not very practical ...
Rome-Pompeii takes about 2hrs 30' Pompeii-Siena takes about 6 hours (- with 2/3 changes) returning via Naples/Rome/Chiusi or Florence. You can find train details on: www.trenitalia.com Hope this helps ... Steve |
Hi LB,
This doesn't sound very practical. What's the rest of your itinerary? ((I)) |
Hi there,
As I outined in another post. We are planning 4 days in Rome. We are hoping to have a day trip to Pompeii and leave for the Tuscan area. We "were" thinking of spending a night in Siena beofre renting a car to explore the smaller areas (total of 4 nights in Siena and Tuscany) and then heading north to Venice and/or Milan. I am reading here that tickets for La Scala are really difficult to get so that is disappointing. We have 14 nights so I am looking for the best use of time and as I said in another post, not feeling as if I seen a lot but was too rushed to enjoy anything. I have no problem with admitting I am quite a travel novice so any opinions or input re: my itinerary would be appreciated. Thanks. |
LB - I don't know the rest of your itinerary, but with 4 days in Rome a day-trip to Pompeii would surely be better on Day 3.
Travelling Rome-Siena via Pompeii on the day you leave would mean 9-10 hrs travelling. Not much fun :( Steve |
HI LB,
I agree with Steve: visit Pompeii as a loooong daytrip from Rome. You can then bus to Siena (see http://www.senabus.it/) to pick up your car. I would choose Venice over Milan. ((I)) |
