Pompeii-Stop off with luggage

Planning to visit Pompeii on my way through to Sorrento. Is there a "safe and secure" place to leave luggage (22"-24" size)either at the train station near Pompeii or at the site? I really hate to have to drag it along while visiting the sites. Anyone been to Pompeii recently?

Hi Gail,

A previous poster reported:

the baggage claim at Pompeii is a small office to the right of the entrance (before you enter) with an attendant inside.

Ira- Hi and thanks for your feedback.
You seem to know Italy very well.
Do you think it's "wise" to check luggage anywhere in Italy, including a tourist area like Pompeii? I'd hate to come back and find my luggage gone!!!

Its "safe and secure"

There's an attendant there manning the small office. I'd be more concerned with just being able to get a spot.

There is also a luggage check room at the Pompeii-Scavi train station, if you prefer not to tote the bags the distance to the checkroom at the Scavi entrance (roughly three city blocks). It was safe enough when I used it in March, i.e., the bags were still there when I returned.
