Pompeii or Herculaneum?

Trying to choose a 1/2 day cruise excursion between Pompeii or Herculaneum (we've been to neither). Has anyone been to both that can share a preference? Thank you.

Both are engrossing areas but Pompeii is by far more substantial and developed from an archaeological bent. No contest here though can't go wrong with either.

With only half a day Herculaneum might be a better bet because it is a much smaller (and better preserved) site. You will be able to see all of Herculaneum with your time but will be rushed at Pompeii and leave feeling that you have unfinished business. Both are well worth visiting.

I second Gavin's opinion.

both are wonderful. I preferred Herculaneum since when I went (10 yrs ago) it was a self-guided visit compared with forced hiring at Pompeii. Pompeii is the classic though so if you really have time for one, go to pompeii. Capri is gorgeous, I highly recommend a trip.
