Pompeii & Herculaneum

I would be grateful if someone could let me know whether or not the sites of Pompeii and Herculaneum provide you with headphones or do we need a guide. Cheers Pawsha

Yes they both provide talking guides. But here is some important info. To hire one of these wand-like things, you must have a credit card. They will not rent to you if you are paying cash. At least that was the case.
Well worth using these things you can go round at your own pace and you don't miss anything.

I paid cash for my audio guide at Pompei but that was in 2001. Here's some more info - http://tinyurl.com/f4p5f

pawsha,
Both have audio guides. You can pay cash but they want something for security (passport, DL, cc) I use my IDP.

pawsha,
IDP is an international driving permit. You get it from AAA it is required by Italian law but rarely asked for. I use the IDP for security just so I don't waste money on something I never use.
